The West Coast is rich with hip hop history. You can spend all day going down the list of some of the most gifted and ground breaking artists in the history of the game from Snoop Dogg all the way down to DJ Quik and E-40. So many different genres, flows, and styles that have been populated from various lovations around the West Coast, especially in the state of California itself. I, myself have been a huge fan and supporter of the west even as a teen growing up in Michigan. One artist that particularly caught my attention was an artist from Long Beach by the name of Techniec.
The first time I heard Techniec rap was on the popular LBC Crew track “Beware of my Crew” from the “A Thin Line Between Love and Hate” soundtrack. The LBC Crew was initially put together by Snoop Dogg and were set to shine on his Doggystyle Record label. Their 1995 debut song sampled a classic from Zapp and Roger and had five emcees spitting heat over the track. Everyone shined, but the one who caught my attention most was Techniec. The youngster had a smooth voice, buttery flow, and sharp bars (“Anytime of day, a duel/dynamically with the lyrical tool/Fuel on the fire warms the desire/To get this rap game stretched down to the wire, sire”). His verse locked me in and as usual, when I hear something I like, I have to find more. So I spent a lot of time over the years searching for more “LBC Crew” and “Techniec” music and was not disappointed although back in the 90s and early 2000s, you had Napster, Limewire, and that was pretty much it. No Youtube, Apple Music, or Spotify to make searching any easier. I locked in as he delivered sharp bars on tracks like “Dippin In My LoLo”, “Blueberry”, “Gold Rush”, and other tracks spread out over time. He was an emcees’ emcee so his craft was centered around sharp bars, metaphors, versatility, and painting pictures with his words. Also very diverse in his subject matter as well. Thankfully, as the years moved on and technology advanced I was able to find a lot more of his music, mixtapes, and albums. He’s bounced around perfecting his craft on Mack 10’s “Whoo Bangin Records”, The Game’s “Black Wall Street” label, as well as his own “Dynamic Certified” brand. And everywhere he landed he constantly shined on every project and track. In the last several years he has released underrated projects like his project with L’s “The Blacklist 1&2” and his 2024 project “Patience of God Season 1”. If you like those projects like I do and want more, you’re in luck because on May 20th of this year he is dropping his “Patience of God Season 2” album and I am more than ready to hit play and see what he has in store for 2025. If you want to learn more about Techniec, he’s pretty active on social media (Instagram: @Techniec “The Techniec LBC) and you can visit his website (techniec.com)
