The last time I reviewed music from Saginaw, Mi’s Ray P, it was for his amazing “Risky Business” EP that hit like a tornado. One of the best things I had heard in 2024 as it was laced with amazing production and gritty, grimey bars that gave the EP it’s personality. After that, he said he was going to come back with more heat. Normally, when you drop something as excellent as the “Risky Business” EP was and say you’re going to drop more heat, you’re leaving yourself open for some very high expectations that one better be prepared to meet. Well, when you have the confidence Ray has, you really have nothing to worry about and that’s exactly the case here with his new album titled “Church House”. Not only did he drop yet another excellent release, but somehow, he topped the previous outing. The production on this album from Prophecy is truly amazing. These are some of the best beats I have heard in the year 2025 and putting Ray P’s grimey flow over them is the icing on the cake. From the start with the red hot and soulful sounding “Come As You Are” to the very last song “God Must Be Crazy”, Ray takes on a ride with potent bars and the grimey Saginaw, MI reality rap street flow. It really is a masterpiece of an album that has the highest replay value this year. Prophecy put his soul into these beats and Ray’s passion for rapping makes this the must hear album of the year and I can’t stress that enough. Coming in at only nine tracks, sometimes, less really is more and you truly have nine amazing tracks with no filler and that’s how it should be. Some artists think putting 15-20 songs on an album is going to give the customer the biggest bang for their buck, but no one wants to have to skip tracks. With “Church House” you can actually press play and let it ride to the end. This album is the truth and I don’t know what he’s going to come with next, but if he says he’s got more heat, it would be a safe bet to put your money on it.
