Self Care Is The Best Care

I’m a man of many ideas and projects.  Most of the time, I want to execute everything at once and my patience for waiting on the results is very thin.  I’m also a man with high anxiety and depression (which I definitely treat and manage) and I’ve had to learn over time to prioritize my mental health over everything else (outside of my kiddos of course) because if you don’t take the time to take care of your mental health, the results will sneak up on you and create issues that could become catastropic.  So as crazy as it may sound, I will drop everything or put things on pause to collect myself and then go back in and make things happen.  I’ll alienate people and create space if I have to as well. I do take medicine and manage my mental health, but there are still those moments that can creep up on me and I need to make sure I tend to that ASAP.  Too many people will dismiss their mental health and/or try to do things to “fix” it.  Keeping themselves busy, taking on other tasks, ignoring the issues, etc.  putting a band-aid over the issue won’t help you in the long run.  Sure it is a solid “temporary” solution, but if and when it comes back, then what?  Keep on resorting to the same tactics?  We all know the definition of insanity and if you don’t, Google is your best friend. Millions of people (including this guy here) deal with the struggles on “mental illness” on the daily so as embarrassing as it may seem, you are NOT alone and never will be. Don’t let your mental health overwhelm you or take a backseat, ALWAYS prioritize it and get your mind back focused. You’ll thank yourself later.  I don’t mean to go MIA sometimes, but in order to make sure my mind is right, I have to take that time to collect myself and get back on track.
